Rockhampton» Click Here for more information about Rockhampton
The city of Rockhampton in Central Queensland is the center of the states beef growing industry as well as being a major service center for the mining industry around Blackwater and Emerald. Rockhampton is always busy and the city center always reflects the financial affluence that this city enjoys. Both of these major industries are important cogs in the economic wheels of the state of Queensland. The entire coastal strip between Gladstone to the south of Rockhampton and Clareview to its north is engaged in the beef industry and the inland towns are connected to the coast by highway and rail to service the gigantic coal mines that operate there.
Most of the accommodation in Rockhampton is in either hotels or motels and there are a large number of both. These are mostly located on either side of the Bruce Highway which runs right through the city. You will find something to suit practically any standard. Rockhampton also has a busy airport and has regular flights from both the capital cities to the south and the northern tourist destinations. Rockhampton is situated just inland from the Capricorn coast which is about thirty minutes drive away. Many tourists come through Rockhampton to visit coastal resort towns in this region like Emu Park and Yeppoon. At Rosslyn Bay there is a huge marina which services the local charter and pleasure fleet as well as providing ferry terminals for tourist wanting to visit the local Islands. Just offshore lie the Keppel Islands and there are a number of small island resorts to be found here. Great Keppel Island is the best known of these. On the mainland and to the north of Yeppoon is the beautiful Capricorn golf resort. Rockhampton is a city with plenty of shopping and excellent restaurants and is an ideal place for tourist travelling along the Queensland coast to spend a few days exploring the region. |
